Common Signs and Symptoms
The most common signs and symptoms of liver cancer include:
- abdominal pain or discomfort
- a lump or mass in the abdomen
- unexplained weight loss
- yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
- white nail beds
- swelling in the legs and abdomen.
Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common type of liver cancer. It usually occurs in people with chronic liver disease or cirrhosis. Other risk factors include being male, having older age, having a family history of liver cancer and having hepatitis B or C virus infection.
Testing for Liver Cancer
Diagnostic tests for liver cancer may include imaging studies such as CT scans or MRI, biopsy, blood tests, and ultrasound. Treatment options may include surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, ablation and radiation therapy.
